Julius Berger Takes Action to Improve Literacy

Julius Berger (JB) launched their 2012 Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) Literacy Campaign with the introduction of the Julius Berger Book Club. Two Public Secondary Schools in Uyo, Akwa Ibom State, were the first stop on the JB Book Club kick-off tour, which then continued on to two schools in Lagos and in Abuja. Beneficiaries of the initiative are Public Secondary Schools with a proven record of excellence and a strong focus on achieving progress.

As part of the goal to reinvigorate the reading culture with today's youth, all students were gifted a signed copy of the book "The Great Fall", by Nigerian author, Chinyere Obi-Obasi, and encouraged to take-up reading the book over their summer break. The second part of the book club will resume in all participating schools upon the recommencement of the school year. At which time the JB CSR team will again visit participating schools, together with the author. The author will hold a question and answer session and will also facilitate a short story writing workshop, organized by JB, as a means to further improve the reading and writing skills of participating students.
