Engineering, procurement, construction of a 459MW open cycle gas turbine power plant

Azura–Edo Independent Power Plant

Further to optimization of the project, value engineering, scope increase as well as adoption of specifications and world bank standards, the contract for the design, engineering, procurement, construction, commissioning and testing of a 459MW open cycle gas turbine power plant was awarded to the Julius Berger / Siemens Consortium.

Julius Berger supported the vision of bringing to fruition Nigeria’s first private investor-led Independent Power Plant (IPP) with a scope of work that included the civil and building works, operation of temporary facilities and logistical support.

In addition to the set-up of a self-sufficient construction site, professionalism and teamwork in combination with the knowhow and dedication of experienced engineers ensured that the challenging 30 week construction schedule was successfully met, 9 weeks ahead of schedule thus supporting the plants ability to come on-stream in a timely manner.

The Azura-Edo IPP is a benchmark in Nigeria for privately funded power generation projects and serves to boost independent power generation and support Nigeria’s extensive energy reform program to ease energy shortages for the greater good of Nigeria.
