Turnkey construction of midstream petrochemical off-loading jetty

Midstream Jetty, Lagos

In the Commodore Channel within the Lagos Port water ways, Julius Berger has built a turnkey midstream petrochemical off-loading facility. The Jetty is designed to receive petrochemical products by means of subsea pipelines to the client’s onshore storage facilities.

In a first phase of the contract, Julius Berger carried out an extensive FEED study. The location and positioning of the midstream jetty in the extremely strong tidal currents had to be determined based on extensive tidal flow and mooring studies. In addition, bathymetric surveys and subsoil investigations were carried out. Based on the FEED data, the jetty’s turnkey design was completed, informing construction of the Jetty and turnkey office building on top of the platform.

To carryout works, Julius Berger deployed heavy duty and specialized equipment, such as custom made jack up platforms, barges equipped with crawler cranes and piling devices.

The demanding offshore piling works were carried out utilizing sate of the art GPS based positioning equipment for the platforms and rigs to enable high tolerance control.

Due to Julius Berger’s strong commitment to an accident and incident free environment, the project was completed successfully and LTI-free despite a difficult offshore HSE environment.
